Bangalore: Five youth killed as speeding car rams BMTC bus

Five youth from the city, who were returning from a trip to Mekedatu, died on the spot when their speeding car collided with a BMTC bus near APS Engineering college on Kanakapura Road in Talaghattapura, on Saturday evening.

The dead are Ayub, Yasin Khan, Yaruf, Jinod and Mayur from Neelasandra and Ashoknagar in Bangalore. According to Talaghattapura police, speeding and rash driving by the car driver was the reason for the accident. 

The mishap took place when the car driver overtook a vehicle ahead of a curve in the road near Somanahalli on the accident-prone Kanakapura Road.

After overtaking, the car driver lost control over his vehicle as he saw a BMTC bus coming directly towards his vehicle, and collided with it.  The impact was such that all five youth inside the car died on the spot. The accident spot presented a ghastly scene with body parts strewn on the road and pieces of flesh and blood of the youth were found in the bus.

According to police, the bodies were mangled beyond recognition. The police had to use a JCB to remove the bus from the accident spot. Talaghattapura police who are investigating the case, suspect that the youth were drunk.

Eyewitnesses said the car driver was speeding and lost control over his vehicle.

Venkatesh A, who happened to be on the scene, said the car driver overtook a vehicle on the curve at such a speed that the bus driver had no time to react.

The bus (213 M), coming from KR Market in Bangalore, was bound for Kempaiahnapalya on Kanakapura road. The accident threw traffic on the busy Kanakapura Road out of gear for an hour, as hundreds of people gathered on the spot, forcing police to block the road for some time.
