Bangalore is set to usher in 2012 with a bang as police have decided to allow restaurants and bars to function till 1am. But many party advertisements are promising a good time well into night on December 31. But the police have made it clear that New Year’s Eve parties will have to wind up by 1am.

Additional commissioner (law and order) T Suneel Kumar said: “We have come across a few advertisements in newspapers where organisers have said the party will go on beyond midnight; this will not be allowed. If people are going to these parties for that extra time, they are mistaken. If such events are held in the city limits or outskirts, we will take stringent action against the organisers.”

An event manager, Arif  Riyaz, said: “In Kolkata and Mumbai, people can party till 3am for festive occasions like New Year’s Eve. What is the problem here?”

Also, the police are not comfortable with the BMRCL’s decision to run the Metro until 2am. Kumar said: “Extra police personnel will be deployed at this junction (Brigade Road) as this year, it would be a big task to control revellers, who will be keen to take a ride in the Metro.”

Police will be out in full strength across the city to make sure that New Year celebrations are held without any untoward incidents.
