A 50-year-old head constable allegedly committed suicide in his official quarters in Jarakabande on Saturday night. The deceased, identified as Rajanna, was a head constable in CAR headquarters. He committed suicide in his house when his wife and children were away. Rajanna hanged himself using his wife’s saree. The incident came to light when his wife returned home at 7pm from the vegetable market. Rajanna was in the house, on leave, for a couple of weeks, as he was sick. He was diabetic, and also suffered from high blood pressure and obesity. He had ben under treatment for over a decade. He was on sick leave and was supposed to report to work from Monday. Rajanna is survived by his wife and two children. The body was handed over to his family after post-mortem in MS Ramaiah Hospital, and was cremated at Bettanagere, Rajanna’s home town. A case has been registered in Nandini Layout police station.

Mother drowns kids, then plunges into lake A 37-year-old mother committed suicide, after drowning her two children at Chenda Bakimar in Navari village of Belthangady taluk, Dakshina Kannada district on Sunday. The woman, Kusumavati, threw her children Sankirtan, 7, and Sampreet, 4, into a lake and then plunged in after them. All three bodies were later fished out. Police said the woman may have been disturbed by marital discord.
