A hoax call gave a big scare to police on Monday afternoon, with the caller claiming to have planted a bomb on fourth floor of Forum mall. That it was a hoax call was established after one hour of thorough search at the mall.
The police control room received the call about 3.40 pm. A police team rushed to the mall with bomb defusing team and sniffer dog squad. The police had informed the mall authorities about the call. By 4 pm, those who were in the mall left the premises. The police team thoroughly searched the fourth floor after stopping screening of movies there. After confirming that no bomb had been planted there, the team searched the rest of the mall. The operation got over about 4.45 pm.
The police said a team had reached the mall quickly after the call. Those watching the movie were asked to cooperate with the police in the search operation. Also, the people were requested not to panic, as it could have led to a stampede-like situation. The screening of films resumed at 5 pm.
Adugodi police are now trying to identify and trace the person who made the call. The police did not reveal the phone number from which the control room received the hoax call.
