The Karnataka State Human Rights Commission has registered suo motu cases against Umar Farooq for battering and smothering his three-month-old baby Neha Afreen, and for causing her death, on Wednesday. Commission chairperson Justice SR Nayak said the KG Halli police had registered a crime against Farooq under various sections of the IPC, including sections 307, 498 (A), and Section 23 of the Juvenile Justice Act.

Justice Nayak declared that “the inhuman act should be condemned as the most heinous and barbaric act, shocking the conscience of the civil society. Such a man should be shown the doors of justice after due process of law with promptitude.”

He also ordered that a copy of this order be submitted to the police commissioner, with a direction to send a detailed report about the progress made in the investigation of the crime within 15 days.
