The police said the murder plan was hatched with the help of Cycle Ravi, a jailed notorious anti-social element. They were planning to eliminate Pavan Kumar, an associate of rowdy Guru Murthy alias Ballan, to gain an upper hand in the turf war between criminal gangs.

The gangsters were armed with machetes and rods, when the police swooped down on them on a tip-off.

Ravindra alias Ittamadu Ravi, 31, Manjunath alias Dhadiya Manja, 26, R Sunil alias Moradi Sunil, 21, and Swamy Gowda alias Swamy, 24, were the men who were arrested. They were earlier involved in the murder of Kathruguppe Linga, a member of the Korangu Krishna gang.

One of the accused, Ravindra, was previously an associate of rowdy Pudari Manja, but later shifted allegiance to Cycle Ravi. He was also facing charges of involvement in a communal clash and mob attack. The other three arrested were  accused of dacoity in a case registered with the Girinagar police.
