Another tiger in Bangalore biological park shows signs of illness

On Friday, a week after the health of tigers was said to be improving, another tiger Amar showed signs of illness.   Two tigers which were suffering from bacterial infection continued to be critical.

Dr BC Chittiappa, assistant director of veterinary services at Bannerghatta Biological Park, said Amar, a safari tiger, is suffering from diarrhoea and is running a temperature. But he is still active and eating. Tests are also being done to ensure that there are no complications.

Health of other tigers is improving, but Minchu is still a cause of concern.

Minister for forests, chairman of Zoo Authority of Karnataka, principal chief conservator of forests, chief wildlife warden, addition principal chief conservator of forests and wildlife and secretary of forests visited BBP on Friday.

Executive director of the park Milo Tago said 10 adult tigers — Anu, Minchu, Inchara, Gowri, Arya, Raja, Rani, Kalpana Chawla,Yashoda and Lava — and five cubs are under treatment.

“Arya and Minchu are still cause of concern for us. Minchu is under very critical condition. Arya is in critical condition and under observation. Arya is suffering from liver damage and Minchu is suffering from kidney damage, both caused by infection,” Tago said.

Treatment is given strictly under the guidance of experts, he said.
All the sick animals have been moved to the isolation ward where 12 doctors are attending on them round the clock.
