“The Vedike’s protest will be countered in adequate proportions in case they try to disrupt the yatra or even try to spread bad vibes in the society,” said Franklin Monteiro, president of the BJP district minority wing.

The Vedike, headed by KL Ashok, had said it would hold a public meeting against Advani’s yatra on the grounds that every time a yatra was held in Mangalore, there was a communal riot soon after.

“In the event of the Vedike trying to foment trouble in the name of protection of minorities, the BJP minority wing will counter it with the help of BJP members from the minority communities,” said Monteiro.

He added that the Vedike is trying to use the occasion to separate the minorities from the mainstream.
