The incident came to light on Sunday at 9.30am when Ganga Ram, owner of Ganesh Jewellery on Varthur Main Road, opened the shop. The rear wall of the showroom had a hole measuring about 2x2 square foot.

Ram told police that some gold jewellery and 8 kg silver articles were missing from the showcase. However, the burglars left behind half of the jewellery that was kept on display. They tried to break open the locker in the shop but failed. Police said the culprits must have panicked and left the heist mid-way.

The jewellery shop did not have alarm system. The burglars removed the CCTV cameras installed there and took them along with the booty.

Police said that local people who knew where the cameras were installed might have committed the crime.

Police rushed to the shop with fingerprint experts and a dog squad when they were informed about the burglary. The preliminary investigation revealed that the burglars had not left any evidence at the crime scene.
