3 killed in accidents

Three persons were killed in three accidents in the city since Friday night.

A 50-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run case when a vehicle—presumed to be a four-wheeler—hit the scooter he was riding on Friday. Sreenivas, a businessman, was heading home with his 25-year-old son on the pillion when the accident took place.

At 9.45 pm, when he was on KR Road, an unidentified vehicle hit his scooter. The police said it appeared that Sreenivas got dragged along with his scooter for some distance.

His head was seriously injured and he died on the way to the hospital. His son received minor injuries and took treatment at a nursing home. The police are trying to trace the vehicle that hit Sreenivas’s scooter.

Sreenivas's body was sent to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital for post mortem. The police have filed a complaint on the basis of the statement of the constable who was deputed near the spot where the accident took place.

In another incident, a man lost his life when a car rammed into him just after he jumped a barricade to get to the other side of the road on Friday night. The victim, Manjunath, 28, had come to the city to meet his brother-in-law.

The police said the accident took place at 11.15 pm, when Manjunath came to Hosur Road to take a bus to return home, Bhadravathi. Just as he jumped the barricade, a car coming from Naganapura Junction and going towards Electronic City hit him.

He was rushed to the nearby Sparsha Hospital, which declared him brought dead. The police had detained the car driver—a software engineer—who was later released on bail.

In yet another incident, a construction labourer was killed when a tempo ran him over at the construction site he was working at, at Pragathi Nagar in Electronic City traffic police limits in wee hours of Saturday.

The victim, Mayappa, 65, was sleeping next to the construction material. A tempo arrived at the scene at 4 am with some construction material. In the dark of the night, the tempo driver could not notice Mayappa and hit him.

As he did not receive any serious external injury, he did not seek medical treatment urgently. It was only later that he developed complications and was rushed to Nimhans, but he passed away before he could reach the hospital.
