As part of DNA’s 2nd Anniversary, eminent personalities from different walks of life came together to envision Bangalore 2020.
Though provoking, futuristic and definitely very bright. That’s what Bangalore 2020 looks like, feel some of the greatest minds in our city. And to discuss the same, they came together as part of the Maxworth Realty DNA Imagine! Conclave. Held at the Lalit Ashok, on Friday, the common thread in the thought process was all about development and progress.
Subroto Bagchi, co-founder of MindTree Limited, believes that by 2020, Bangalore would have entered the global scheme, and will play a major role in the global arena. “On a larger scale, our country will play an important role in global economy, politics and security,” he says.
Vedam Jaishankar, an expert on cricket, believes that the strength of the city lies among its people. “With so many factors being in favour of the city, especially the dynamic people and concerned citizens, Bangalore is already on the top and in the future will be the No 1 city,” he says.
While most were optimistic of the city having a great future, there were others who felt that the challenges en-route have to be looked into carefully, especially if are to ensure that the dream becomes a reality. “If the city has to move to the fore-front, then the infrastructure, as well as the transport system has to be looked into,” says Harish Jagtiani, President of Intermark Corporation.
A panel discussion, on the topic saw eminent personalities including Praveen Sood additional commissioner of traffic, Leo Saldhana, Trustee Environmental Support Group, Dr Hoysala M Chanakya, Principal Research Scientist, Indian Institute of Science, Congress leader Krishna Byregowda, Shubhendu Ghosh, Principal General Manager, BSNL amongst others who were present at the discussion voiced their hopes, aspirations as well as the challenges that would have to be tackled along the way. The panalists also felt that the youth should get more proactive. Bangalore needs to shape a personality of its own, keeping in mind the history as well as bring in aspects of modernity. That’s what will propel the city in the right direction and make our vision of 2020 come true.
