Viren Pradeep, a class VI student of Akshara Montessori House of Children, Yelahanka, is all set to go to the United States. He has been selected to represent Karnataka in People to People World Leadership Forum USA that will be held in Washington, DC between September 27 and October 2.
A self-taught artist and a boy with encyclopaedic knowledge about dinosaurs, Pradeep was chosen by World Leadership Forum, a US-based non-government organisation, which organises platforms for children across the world to represent their schools, states, or countries as “student leaders”, and to interact with each other and learn leadership qualities.
“I am very excited to go to the US. I will get a chance to meet kids from across the world, make new friends and discover new things,” said 11-year-old Pradeep.
The forum was started by former US president Dwight Eisenhower in 1956 with a goal to help young people around the globe develop a sense of leadership and give then a chance to experience a life-changing educational journey that will foster friendship, build the foundation for personal success, and offer unique access to people, places, and activities. This year, students from over 95 countries are participating in the leadership forum. The US president acts as the honorary chairman of the organisation.
“A lot is to be gained by participating in a forum like this. He can learn about different cultures and about life in other parts of the world. It also gives him a platform to express himself. He can overcome his inhibitions and grow mentally as a responsible individual through the discussions in the meet,” said Viren’s mother Krithy Pradeep.
According to Krithy, Akshara Montessori House of Children has been instrumental in giving wings to her son’s creativity.
“Choosing Akshara over regular schools was instrumental in his overall growth. He is an active child with an artistic frame of mind. He loves clay modelling, wood craft and painting. His school helps him understand academics by using innovative and artistic means,” she said. “In fact, Akshara has been monitoring his talents and interests. It was they who sent his profile to the World Leadership Forum,” she said.
