With recent amendments by the Union ministry of Road Transport and Highways coming into effect on July 1, candidates can get their driving licence without taking a test at the RTO.

As per the new rules, high-quality driving courses will be offered to candidates at training centres. Once a driver completes said course, no further driving test is required.

How to obtain a driving licence without a driving test?

Candidates can obtain light (LMV), medium (MMV), and heavy (HMV) motor vehicle licences through the new training courses. The centres will also provide industry-specific specialised training.

Training centres are set to include simulators. Centres will have a driving test track to provide high-quality driving training.

For LMV licence, candidates will have to take a 29-hour driving course for maximum of four weeks from the start of the course. The course will further be divided into theory and practice.

For MMV and HMV driving courses, candidates will have to undergo training for 38 hours for six weeks.

As per the notification, the training will be divided into two segments - theory and practical. The training will also include aspects like road ethics to ensue ethical and courteous behaviour on the road.

The validity of the accreditation will five years after which drivers can get their licences further renewed.
