Nitish Kumar is probably the only leader in current political India who has been associated with power continuously for the last two and a half decades. For the past 15 years, he has been the head of the Bihar government continuously. Before that, he has also been a minister in the NDA government under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. That is, since 1997.

No one in Bihar has ever questioned accepting the leadership of Nitish Kumar. Though his party JD(U) has never been strong enough outside his home state, Nitish has been accepted nationally as a formidable leader.

Such great success cannot be achieved only by luck or manipulation. Nitish Babu's personality and his decision-making also contribute a lot to this success.

The tag of good governance babu
The more rigorous the Nitish Kumar decisions, the more inclusive it is in practice. When he was accused of being egoistic during the election, he folded his hands and told the reporters - please don't call me arrogant.

Nitish Kumar has not received the tag of good governance Babu, just like that. Nitish Kumar has put a lot of his claim on the politics and public policy, without emotion and influence. Nitish Kumar does not mind that his party has now come to the younger brother's role. Even today, he was seen forming the government with the same confidence and smugness as he had seen when he became the Chief Minister even after the RJD got more seats in the last election. Many top leaders of BJP, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have repeatedly announced the determination that Nitish Kumar will be the Chief Minister of Bihar for the next five years. There is no scope for doubt in anyone's mind.

There were many ups and downs in life
Nitish Kumar has seen many ups and downs in his political life. History is witness that in 1995, JDU got only seven seats in the 324-seat Bihar Assembly. After that, how Nitish Kumar made himself indispensable in Bihar's politics is now for everyone to witness.

Born on March 1, 1951 in Bakhtiyarpur, Bihar, in an ordinary family, Nitish Kumar has proved himself to be an extraordinary politician with the help of his understanding and public acceptance. Nitish Kumar's journey from electrical engineering to social engineering has gone through many twists.

The JP movement, which lasted from 1974 to 1977, had time to heat up and get ready to fight for the masses. Nitish was among the few new politicians who had taken an active role in Jayaprakash Babu's entire revolution movement.

    Electoral politics started in 1985
Nitish Kumar's successful electoral politics began in 1985 when he was first elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly. He was also given important positions first in Lok Dal and then in Janata Dal. But due to differences within the Janata Dal, Nitish and George Fernandes formed the Samata Party and established a separate political identity.

George Fernandes came with the BJP in a political alliance against Congress, and thus Nitish Kumar also established a formal relationship with the BJP.

Nitish Kumar grew in stature in politics, and he was soon elected a member of the ninth Lok Sabha. In 1990, he was made the Minister of State for Agriculture for the first time in the Union Cabinet. He continued to represent the Badh parliamentary constituency of Bihar for many years. In the Vajpayee government, along with George Fernandes, Nitish Kumar also became a cabinet minister. There he held the responsibility of Minister of Railways and Surface Transport.

When the call for change came

Nitish Kumar was more interested in Bihar politics. The public was fed up with the government of Lalu Yadav and his family. A change in state leadership was ominous. Nitish Kumar emerged as the people's aspiration and took over the leadership of the new government formed in 2005. He has been serving as Chief Minister since then. Although he first became the Chief Minister in the year 2000, he had to resign in just seven days.

Nitish may have been in power for the last two and a half decades, but he did not hesitate to resign whenever it came to morality. When his party could not win any major victory in the Lok Sabha in the 2014 general elections, Nitish Kumar resigned from the post of Chief Minister—taking responsibility for poor performance. He appointed Dalit leader Jitan Ram Manjhi as Chief Minister. But after the turmoil within the party, he again came to over the leadership in February 2015. But when Lalu Yadav and his son Tejashwi were seen to be arbitrary, Nitish immediately decided to distance them and again formed a government with the BJP.

    Nitish Kumar's report card
If Nitish Kumar remains unbeatable in Bihar's politics, then the NDA government's work and clear vision are also responsible for this success.  Bihar has now come out of Bimaru state under the leadership of Nitish Kumar. The poverty rate is continuously decreasing. While the poverty rate was 54.4 percent in 2004-05, it has now come down to 33.74 percent. Both per capita income and expenditure have increased in Bihar. Bihar scores in Ease of Doing Business, 16.4 in 2015, has increased to 81.91.

    Big challenges ahead
Nitish Kumar knows that the challenges ahead are immense. Not only on the political front but also in the performance of the government. Nitish, who is doing politics based on his work, is going to depend on him. It is the responsibility of Bihar's development. They also have to stand the test of social cohesion and opposition.

The women appreciated his decision of prohibition, and the result was also reflected in the voting. But apart from drug addiction, employment and industrialization are also significant issues. On which Nitish Kumar has to show something substantial. The people of Bihar are with Nitish Kumar; circumstances are also favorable. Nitish Kumar has to decide the way forward.
