The PM and the PAC
The BJP sees Manmohan Singh’s offer to submit to questioning by the PAC as a political gimmick (‘PM’s offer to appear before PAC a personal sentiment: Congress’, DNA, December 23). Unfortunately for the BJP, the PM’s offer is seen by the people and most of the media as a sincere effort to get on with not only the investigation into the 2G scam but also with the working of Parliament. The PAC is a statutory body, headed by a BJP leader of stature, Murli Manohar Joshi. The government is obliged to take action on the recommendation of a PAC. The PAC is already examining the CAG report that has indicted A Raja. Now with the PM’s readiness to submit to PAC questioning, it has become more effective than a JPC. There is no reason why the BJP should be worried, except if the party is worried that a man like Murli Manohar Joshi may not toe the BJP line.

Don’t delay JPC
This refers to ‘Face JPC or quit, oppn tells PM, takes battle to street’ (DNA, December 23) and the central government’s offer to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the demand for a JPC probe. As a good deal of valuable time has already been lost, the government will do well in constituting a JPC immediately to probe into the alleged scam. As the ambit of a JPC probe is wider than those of the CBI probe or the PAC, the government should not hesitate to go for a JPC probe to dispel all doubts. Any delay in ordering a JPC probe only reinforces the opposition’s accusations.

Baseless Modi phobia
It was really painful to read the edit ‘Modi’s green thoughts may not clear his image’ (DNA, December 23). Even the Supreme Court could not find any evidence against Narendra Modi, but we, the public, are still blaming him for the post-Godhra riots. It seems that we do not want to accept the truth. During the last election even the Muslims have voted for Narendra Modi and the BJP in a big way. It has been proven that he is the best chief minister India has today. He is honest, a good administrator and very hard working. It is time we stopped hounding Modi.
