Punish the guilty
The Indian National Congress has cleverly washed its hands off its long-time Pune MP Suresh Kalmadi by asking him to resign from its general secretaryship a few weeks ago. But he is still being shielded so as not to spill the beans about the other big fish involved in the CWG scam. The CBI raids on the offices and homes of Kalmadi and his staff are hogwash. The raiding parties have admitted that important files are missing from the Organising Com-mittee headquarters but Kalmadi is yet to be questioned. Does the CBI expect an “experienced” man like Kalmadi to keep incriminating documents for so long? The CBI ‘acted’ well by bringing out a briefcase and a bag after a gruelling 11-hour search at his house (‘Kalmadi’s farmhouse near Panshet searched for six hours’, DNA, December 25). It would be interesting to watch whether these investigations culminate in putting the guilty behind bars or not.

Get rid of corruption
At the 83rd AICC plenary the prime minister offered to appear before the PAC to answer questions about the 2G spectrum scam. It was rumoured that he did this on his own without consulting the Congress president and embarrassed her in the process. A party spokesman has said the PM’s decision was in his individual capacity and not an example to other ministers. It is obvious that Sonia’s 5-point program to eliminate corruption was just for public consumption and a diversionary tactic. She has no plans to purge the party of corrupt politicians.

Media guidelines
The News’ Broadcasters’ Association (NBA) has asked channels to be ‘sensitive’ while covering the release of the Srikrishna Committee report on Telangana (DNA, December 27). I am not aware whether such guidelines were given during the Gujarat riots or the Ayodya judgement recently and even so, the channels seemed to give it a go-by. It is evident that because of the pressure from ruling party in power the NBA has issued such guidelines. I am sure that the channels will go their own way.
