Palpable corruption
This is with reference to ‘Moily works up a lather over corruption’, (DNA, September 15), when somebody points out one’s drawbacks, one should be grateful for being provided an opportunity to correct oneself. As such, Union law minister Veerappa Moily should welcome  former central vigilance commissioner Pratyush Sinha’s remark, more so since it is factual. The better course of action would be to accept reality and mend ways. In a democracy, every man has the right to express his views and should be encouraged to do so, particularly when what he says is for the common good of the country and its people. The concluding statement ‘more than an apology, what Indians would rather have is solutions’ should find an echo through the length and breadth of the country.

Language formula
This is with reference to the letter, ‘Stop pampering Hindi’ (DNA.Inbox, September 15). While I agree with the writer that Hindi-speaking Indians are pampered in India, I would like to add that the three-language formula is not applied uniformly all over India and especially in the Hindi-speaking states. They get away with learning two languages, Hindi and English, and it is unfair on the other states where students have to study three languages. All Indian languages must be encouraged. The only true national language could be Sanskrit, which is the mother of almost all Indian languages.

Be self-sufficient
Apropos ‘Gandhain self-sufficiency is needed to save Mumbai’ (DNA, September 14), the writer is quite right in pointing out that “… in some ironical way in 21st century India, MK Gandhi to the rescue”. Infact a fair number of Residents’ Associations are functioning in many parts of Mumbai to keep a watch on the goings on in their neighbourhood. Not only that, realising that the civic authorities are found wanting when it comes to doing something urgently needed, a few good examples are: preparedness during floods by keeping inflatable dinghies ready , protesting against the proposal to construct a flyover and so on.  It is good that Gandhi is as relevant today as he was during his days
