ANALYSIS
The occasional talk about bringing back trillions of dollars worth of black money stashed in foreign banks by unscrupulous Indians is nothing but an attempt to hoodwink the unsuspecting common man.
Futile exercise
The occasional talk about bringing back trillions of dollars worth of black money stashed in foreign banks by unscrupulous Indians is nothing but an attempt to hoodwink the unsuspecting common man. As we all know, the real culprits are the politicians, irrespective of their party affiliations. Therefore, to expect any concrete action by the government in this regard is an exercise in futility.

Marital relations
Apropos ‘Wife can’t sue man’s girlfriend for cruelty, says Supreme Court’, (DNA, September 16), the term ‘relative’ needs to be redefined. Although it has been noted that a man’s girlfriend can’t be sued since she is neither related by blood nor by marriage, it is also not logical to presume that a person “related” to the husband is party to cruelty, if any, to the wife. The misuse of the said section includes involving as many relatives of the husband as possible.
The state investigating agencies are ill-equipped to assess the role of the relatives and hence rope in the relatives as mentioned by the scorned wife. A sensible solution would be to include only those relatives against whom there is prima facie evidence at the time of preliminary investigation. —Seema Malghan, Thane
Ayodhya verdict
Apropos ‘Why the Ayodhya verdict isn’t going to settle anything’, (DNA, September 16), I do not agree on the points raised. According to French writer Dr Christophe Jaffrelot the Ayodhya verdict would be an opportunity for Muslim community to follow the principles of mainstream in the country. But according to general consensus whatever be the outcome, it will be a great chance for NDA to unite and come up. The Ayodhya verdict will certainly favour NDA during upcoming Bihar assembly elections.

II
Apropos ‘Why the Ayodhya verdict isn’t going to settle anything’, the writer is right in saying Ayodhya verdict is not going to settle anything. We seek truth from facts but all facts may not reveal the truth. The writer envisages that a history and truth commission can serve the goal. It is to be seen how fundamentalists from both sides will react to the outcome of the verdict.
