ANALYSIS
Often when challenged with a threatening situation, we react without thinking. In a crowded train somebody inadvertently pushes you and you push back. You yell at him. He yells back in self-defense. What has anyone achieved? Nothing . Only a bad feeling of hate or contempt towards your fellow human being.
Instead, wait for a few seconds, frame your justification in your mind and explain your position in gentle tones. Use endearing words like sister, dear, sir etc to address your opponent. Experience the change in the other person's reaction. It will almost always be positive.
However, if your opponent is unreasonable, quit after trying once. Weigh the stakes. If it is a trivial matter, it's simply not worth pursuing. Utilise that time to analyse your own reactions, to control your rising anger and prevent your own moods from getting damaged. Remain silent and the anger will pass. Experience the feeling of triumph over your own feelings. It's more valuable than winning an argument with the opposite person.
