In a press conference held at her residence, the girl says that the top cop also used abusive language while interrogating her
The 22-year-old victim of an alleged gangrape in Satellite area on Sunday complained that JCP (Crime) JK Bhatt was pressuring her to change her FIR from that of rape to cheating.
In a press conference held at her residence, the girl said that the top cop also used abusive language while interrogating her. "He told me that since a wood-like object was inserted into my body it was not rape. You don't know how rape happens, he told me," said the victim
The victim alleged that Bhatt also shouted at her during interrogation and said that she had concocted the whole rape story as she was annoyed at her boyfriend Gaurav for breaking up with her.
"He told me that he (Bhatt) would have done something similar if he was in my place. I don't know what Mr Bhatt would have done but I would not come forward to complain of rape knowing very well the shame that me and my family would have to undergo," said the girl.
She said Bhatt asked her to change her complaint to that of cheating and that he would ensure that the accused gets punished. "When I refused to change my statement he began shouting at me, saying that I was a criminal," said the girl.
The girl also said that she had constantly requested that her statement be taken before a lady magistrate but the cops have not done it.
"A supreme court order states that in case of rape, the victim's statement has to be recorded before a lady magistrate within 48 hours. It has been 72 hours but the cops have not done anything other than constantly calling my daughter for questioning and humiliating her," said the father of the girl.
He also stated that this was the reason why women did not come forward to file rape complaints and instead preferred suicide. "The sort of questioning put forward can drive them to commit suicide," said the father.
Police commissioner AK Singh said the department will inquire into the allegations made against JCP (Crime) JK Bhatt. He said that the best officers in the force were involved in investigating the case and that so far they a have not reached any conclusion. He said there were several discrepancies in the statements of the victim and the accused.
