BJP chief addressed ABVP convention in Ahmedabad
BJP chief Amit Shah on Saturday said that people in India had been experiencing real freedom for the last five years. Shah was addressing the youth at a convention held by Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) students' wing, having a parallel ideology to BJP in Ahmedabad.
"Winds of change have started blowing for last five years. It has changed the lives of people. Before that, independence and democracy were limited to books for the last 50 to 60 years. Now, people in India have been feeling what independence and democracy are," Shah said.
"The changes have come because of the joint efforts of those who are in the government or else with the government. The government has built toilets in 8 crore homes, gave gas stoves to 6 crore homes, brought electricity 7 crore households and gave 2.5 crore houses to homeless families. People in India have now great faith in the government," Shah said.
Praising the unity of ABVP, Shah said, "The organisation is the strongest union of students in the world. This union has become the cause of genesis of other unions and association. Many prominent leaders, managers and motivators have come from ABVP. This union has inculcated great learning and thoughts into the mindset of these leading personalities and the society gets the benefit at the larger scale."
An issue of renaming Ahmedabad city as Karnavati also rose in this convention, when a student leader asked the leader why the state and the central governments did not change the name of city when both are ruled by BJP. The BJP chief, however, avoided to make any comment to this.
