The society used extremely high quantity of pesticides in the gardens and peacocks that came to feed there took ill, says Manoj Bhavsar
Two peacocks were killed and three other birds were taken ill after they fed in a garden in which pesticides were sprinkled. The incident was reported from Ravpura Society near Memnagar Fire station. "The society used extremely high quantity of pesticides in the gardens and peacocks that came to feed there took ill. Of this an adult peacock and a chick died while three other birds were taken seriously ill," said Manoj Bhavsar who works for animal rescue. He alleged that the residents of nearby areas had also complained of the strange smell when the pesticides were being sprinkled. "It is gross negligence on the part of the society. National bird has been killed.
An FIR should have been registered but the forest officials do not seem very keen on it," said Bhavsar. DCF A'bad SJ Pandit could not be contacted for his comments.
