While investigating the Talati placement scam, the Gandhinagar local crime branch (LCB) has stumbled upon the role of two more mediators, who were allegedly hand in glove with kingpin Kalyansinh Champavat. According to the police, Anil Mewada and Nainesh Jaiswal worked for Champavat, owner of Smart Academy in Sector-5.

The duo allegedly sent around 20 candidates to Champavat, who was arrested by the LCB on Saturday night for collecting money from candidates wanting to clear the Talati exam held on Sunday.

During the raid, the police seized Rs 1.43 crore in cash, which Champavat had taken from the candidates to clear their exam or give them appointment letters directly using his influence.

Along with Champavat, the police also arrested one Nisal Shah, who used to work as one of the mediators to fetch candidates for Champavat.

Following their arrests, the police have unearthed a larger network and nabbed Ritesh Naik, a deputy section official of the education department, who had allegedly collected money from as many as eight candidates on behalf of Champavat as guarantee money to clear the Talati exam.

Just like Shah and Naik, the police have learned about the roles of Mewada and Jaiswal, too. To get more information on the duo, LCB sought further extension of Champavat’s remand on Thursday and the court obliged by extending his custody till Friday.

Meanwhile, the police also learnt that Champavat used to openly announce his scheme at his academy by asking his candidates to shell out money if they wanted to pass the exam easily.

After taking money, Shah used to ask those students to write ‘B’ on the upper right corner of the OMR answer sheet to identify Smart students during evaluation. To find out their actual connections in the government, the police have also acquired two days of additional custody for Shah from the court on Thursday.
