Traders from Shahpur area of the city have reportedly approached the Gujarat High Court against the ongoing construction work for the metro project in the area. The petitioners have raised the issue of loss of business due to the ongoing construction work and the heavy pollution in the area due to the project.

The traders have contended that due to the construction work going on for the project, several road diversions have been introduced and it is difficult for customers to come to the shops. It has been also contended that due to construction work, customers refrained from visiting the area, resulting in a loss of business.

The traders have also demanded compensation from the authorities. They have requested the court to direct the authorities to complete the project soon so as to put an end to the inconvenience faced by the people. Shahpur station comes under the East-West Line of metro project, which will connect Thaltej and Vastral, with an interchange station at Old High Court.

HC issues notice to GMRCL, state

Meanwhile, in a separate case, the Gujarat High Court on Friday issued a notice to the state government and Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRCL) after a certain Manu Bharwad moved court against the authorities for initiating parallel acquisition process for acquiring his land near Nava Vadaj. Bharwad has claimed that GMRCL entered into an agreement with him on December 19, 2018, for taking over the land by offering good compensation and alternate land, but later on started the process for acquisition of his land, which would reduce his benefit from the deal.
