As a part of the 100-day challenge of digital payments for the smart city project, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is visiting malls and organising events and camps to promote online tax payment.

"We are encouraging people to go for digital transactions. We have been accepting online payments for long, via various mediums like web portals and mobile apps. To popularise it, every noon, our teams go about educating people on online payments," said Debashish Banerjee, assessor and tax collector, AMC.
"Two per cent discount is given to all tax payers who make transactions online. The discount scheme will continue till March 31, 2019, for this year's payment," said the official.
In the coming days, the tax department is going to hold meetings with various communities and societies to apprise them of the same. "We have started with the malls, where most visitors are by far aware of online modes of payment. In the past two weeks, we have apprised more than two thousand people about it. Now we are targeting communities and societies," said a senior official.
After Diwali, the civic body will announce an incentive for advance payment, which would be around 10 per cent of the total tax bill. "For online payment, there is 2 per cent discount and the total discount is capped to thousand rupees," remarked the official.
To encourage digital payment, the civic body had earlier announced only card payment will be accepted as a mode of payment for travelling by BRTS buses, starting September 1, 2018. But after much protest from the locals the decision was withdrawn. The civic body is promoting Janmitra cards — a one of a kind debit card for AMC-related payments.

The tax department will visit senior citizens in city to educate them about online payment. The team will visit them along with their own gazettes and ask them to pay their tax online. As of now, they are preparing a list of such tax payers. Operations will begin from post-Diwali.
