This Vibrant Gujarat Summit, get answers to your urban worries

The Gujarat government is upscaling the scope of Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2019 by offering solutions to urbane issues such as space crunch, uncontrolled development, traffic chaos, and soaring prices of housing. The government has arranged a seminar and lecture series on 'Mobility-led Urban Development' during the event to address the hassles, urban development secretary Mukesh Puri said Monday.

"The cities should be made more livable and enjoyable so that people who migrate to urban areas get have little problems. There are issues in cities taking increasing urbanisation. Such issues must be dealt with optimistically," he said. "There will be discussion over solutions through technologies for urban planning, housing for all, slum rehabilitation multi-model and non-motorised transportation, parking space, vehicle sharing and a boost to mass transportation," Puri added.

As per the details derived from the urban development department, about 43% population of the state live in urban areas, the viz-a-viz national average of 31.16%. Gujarat's urban population is projected to increase from 2.57 crore (as per 2011 census) to 3.40 crores in 2021 that will be 47% of the state's population. Every year Gujarat will have to provide basic infrastructure facilities to an additional 1 million people in urban areas only to maintain the current service levels. Besides, the government is organising and event, Gujarat's Sprint to 2022, to showcase the potential of the state as the destination to live and invest in. The government will project development in physical and social infrastructure, political stability, holistic educational, medical facilities, opportunities for employment and connectivity.

The secretary to chief minister, Ashwani Kumar, said: "This event is the first-of-its-kind, exclusive event aimed at showcasing Chief Minister Vijay Rupani's vision for advancing Gujarat's position beyond the premier investment destination."
