15 boys asked to install tuition class hoarding.
A student was electrocuted, while 14 other were injured when a massive hoarding that they were trying to install touched the electric line at Bardoli town near Surat on Sunday. All of them were aged between 15 and 17 years.
A hoarding measuring 20x20 feet, highlighting the performance of students in exams, was prepared by authorities of Robert K P Commerce tuition centre at Ma Ashish Complex. Instead of hiring professionals, they assigned the task of fitting the board to 15 of their students.
As per the instruction, the students went to do their job on Sunday afternoon.
When they were busy fitting the hoarding, its iron portion touched the electric line. The current passing through it threw all the students to the ground.
They were rushed to Sardar Smarak Hospital by locals. One of them, Viral Patel, died during treatment.
The owners of the tuition centre, Kamlesh Bhandari, Bipin Patel, Yogesh Patel and Pritesh Patel, have gone into hiding and have even switched off their cell phones. Bardoli police have registered a case and are investigating into the matter.
