Swine flu: Three more deaths, 93 new cases in Gujarat

Swine flu toll in the state rose to 61 on Thursday with three more patients succumbing to the H1N1 virus, the state health department said. However, the cities where the deaths had occurred were not revealed.

The health department said that 93 swine flu cases were confirmed in the state on Thursday. This is the highest number of cases coming to light in a single day in the current year.

Forty-three of the fresh swine flu cases were confirmed in Ahmedabad city, and six cases in Ahmedabad district. Ahmedabad city has reported close to 500 swine flu cases this year, which is more than 30% of the total cases.

Ten cases were reported in Vadodara city, and six each in Surat and Bhavnagar cities. Four cases were reported in Bhavnagar, and two each in Rajkot city, Gandhinagar, Anand, Botad, and Chhota Udepur.

The government said that 926 swine patients have been discharged so far.

Gujarat has recorded the third highest number of swine flu cases after Rajasthan and Delhi this year, while it is second after Rajasthan in terms of deaths, according to central government data.
