There's no respite from swine flu as four more deaths were reported in the state on Tuesday.

According to the state health department, one swine flu death each was reported in Bhavnagar, Bharuch, Kutch, and Junagadh city on Tuesday.

With these, swine flu deaths in the state since January 1 went up to 47. Health department data showed that 57 new cases were reported in the state on Tuesday. Twenty-five of these cases were from Ahmedabad city alone. Ahmedabad has reported 238 swine flu cases this year and reported four deaths.

Five swine flu cases were reported from Vadodara city, four from Rajkot city, and three each from Bhavnagar city, Rajkot Banaskantha, and Anand. Two cases were confirmed in Patan.

Bhavnagar, Gandhinagar, Botad, Jamnagar, Surat city, Junagadh, Junagadh city, Vadodara and Kheda reported one case each. With the latest numbers, swine flu cases in the state went up to 955, the third highest in the country after Rajasthan and Delhi. Gujarat has reported the second highest number of deaths after Rajasthan.

Swine flu cases have risen sharply in the state in the last fortnight. From eight as of January 22, the number of swine flu deaths in the state is now at 47, which works out at 3-4 deaths per day on an average. Similarly, around 40 cases are being reported on an average per day.
