Swine flu cases in Ahmedabad cross 1,000, state toll rises to 107

The state health department said in a release that 106 swine flu cases were confirmed in the state today, taking the total number of cases since January 1, 2019, to 3,406.

Swine flu cases in Ahmedabad city crossed 1,000 on Monday, while the death toll in the state rose to 107 with four more patients succumbing to the H1N1 virus.

The state health department said in a release that 106 swine flu cases were confirmed in the state today, taking the total number of cases since January 1, 2019, to 3,406.

Of the 106 new cases, 32 were reported in Surat city, while Ahmedabad city reported 28 cases. This was the first time this year that Ahmedabad did not report the maximum number of daily cases.

Information sourced from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and health department showed that swine flu cases in the city crossed 1,000, and touched 1,026 today.

"Since January 1, 2,574 patients have recovered. 727 patients are undergoing treatment at present," the health department release said.

Vadodara city reported nine new cases today, followed by Gir Somnath with five, and Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, and Bhavnagar city with three cases each. Anand, Junagadh, Rajkot city, Morbi and Bhavnagar reported two swine flu cases. Valsad, Bharuch, Navsari, Banaskantha, Patan, Aravalli, Ahmedabad rural, Surendranagar, Jamnagar, Amreli, Jamnagar city, Rajkot, and Botad reported a one-one case, it added.

HEARING ON SWINE FLU CASES

The Gujarat High Court on Tuesday is going to take up further hearing of public interest litigation (PIL) questioning the poor state of government health set-up in Gujarat resulting in an uninhibited rise of swine flu cases and subsequent deaths. Notably, the court had earlier ordered the counsel of the petitioners to inspect the healthcare facilities in the hospitals operated by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). The advocate is supposed to submit its inspection report during the hearing.
