The SUCI will in all be contesting from three seats, one each in Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara. It should be noted that the SUCI has been putting up candidates in elections since 1998. “I see a scope and space for an alternative in Gujarat. We are offering the people value-based politics,” said Joshi.

To a query on the Left parties overall poor performance across the state and the fact that it has never won a seat in Gujarat, Joshi said past precedents need not decide future outcomes. “This is a democracy, everyone has a right to put up a fight,” said Joshi. She said her concern was the anti-women politics that is happening in the state.
