Two days after student members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) had locked up the deans and administrative staff of Central University Gujarat in Gandhinagar over their concerns not being heard, they are once again ready for more aggressive protests on Wednesday. As they claim that of the list of demands submitted to the university officials, only a few were heard and a temporary solution to the same was brought.

“We had given an application to the university on Monday but it was just a temporary solution. There are bigger issues that need attention and hence we have decided to go aggressive without protests on Thursday. If need be, we will again lock up the officials,” Sandeep Shengde, a PhD student and General Secretary, ABVP, CUG, said.

“The biggest issue is about Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF) that is a machinery division. Immense corruption is happening there. In 2014, a CBI inquiry was also initiated then, however, the vice-chancellor had stopped the same saying that an internal committee would be established. Another issue is the tendering process for the canteen and other buildings. The administrative body is also against the newly appointed registrar as she wants to audit everything. Due to this internal politics, students are at loss.”

“Interestingly, Lyngdoh guidelines are also not being followed for the election process. Recently, of the 18 council members, only 10 were called and declared themselves as office bearers. All of this is illegal.”
