Residents rushed out of their homes when news of the three snakes entering the slums spread. However, snake catchers, who visited the area, said there was only one snake, which was identified as the Red Sand Boa and it was hardly 5ft long. "It was juvenile one. This variety is non-poisonous. We searched every house but did not find any other snake," said Jigar Upadhayay, a snake catcher.

However, residents of the area insisted that there were three 10-ft-long snakes. "We caught one of them. The other two went into the houses. We have been out of our houses since 6am," said Parul Vaghela, from whose house the rescued snake was found.

Mahesh Chunara, a leader, said Ganeshnagar, where the displaced people live, is close to the sewage treatment plant and has been home to such snakes.
