SIT says close to cracking former MLA Jayanti Bhanushali's murder case

In the Jayanti Bhanushali murder case, the SIT probing the case has found new leads. On Thursday, in a joint operation by the Anti-Terrorism Squad and Ahmedabad crime branch, two main suspects were brought to Ahmedabad for questioning.

Late on Thursday night, the investigating team was able to identify the two main suspects in the case as 'Shekhar Maru ' and 'Surjeet Bhau'. According to sources, the two could possibly be the shooters.

As per senior police officials, during the investigation, it was revealed that around four people were involved in the murder. Two of them were the sharpshooters who were given the task to kill Bhanushali and recover his phone and bag. The other two conducted monitored Bhanushali's schedule and had provided his exact location to the shooters.

The two who were on the reconnaissance, are yet to be identified by cops. Further investigation revealed that the two people who gave information to the shooters could be people close to Bhanushali. They knew the exact coach and seat Bhanushali was travelling in, on the train.

Pavan More, a co-passenger of Bhanushali, had seen the shooters and a sketch was made by the investigation team with More's help. Later, officers recovered CCTV footage from four railway stations and were able to get the exact location from where the suspects boarded the train and at which point they managed to escape.

Ashish Bhatia, DGP, CID Crime and Railway, said, "The investigation regarding this case is on and several people have been taken in for questioning and for statements. But nobody has been arrested in the matter yet. Our team is looking into all aspects of the matter, we are getting close to cracking the case and soon."

SIT undertakes reconstructs crime

The SIT, on Friday, had gone to the Kalupur Railway station of Ahmedabad, where the H1 coach is parked. Inside the coach where the murder happened, the team undertook a reconstruction of the crime to find more evidence and leads in the case.

Case lodged against six

On January 8, Bhanushali's nephew Sunil lodged a complaint with Gandhidham police with regard to the murder. He alleged that former MLA and BJP leader Chhabil Patel, his son Siddharth Patel, Jayant Thakkar, Umesh Parmar, Manisha Goswami, and one Surjit Bhai had conspired to kill his uncle. Currently, SIT officials have been able to get statements of only Jayant Thakkar in the matter, while the others are on the run.
