More than 500 locals came out on the roads in Shahpur area to support the bandh called in protest of imposition of Prevention of Anti Social Activities (PASA) Act on Chandresh Vyas. The latter was booked for attacking a corporator.
The area has been his stronghold for many years now. The bandh received fair response as most of the shops and commercial establishments in Shahpur remained closed on Wednesday.
On May 30, Vyas and three of his accomplices —Sanju, Nirav Joshi and Bunty Bhavsar— had entered into a scuffle with Shahpur corporator Kaushik Jain, a resident of Parbadi ni Pol. In his complaint to Shahpur police, Jain had claimed that Vyas and his men thrashed him with sticks and pipes near Hava Bandar hotel at Shahpur Darwaja crossroads.
