Treated sewage water to be sold to DSI
The civic body has found a new way to boost its earnings. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will divert its sewage treated water to the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) for industrial use. AMC standing committee has approved the decision to sell the treated water at Rs4.30 per 1,000 litres.
“The civic body will allot 2.5 hectare to the contractor as per jantri rate for treating the water, which can be recycled. Also, the sewage water from the west zone will be used for the same,” said standing committee chairman Bhupendra Patel.
The west zone, comprising areas like Chandkheda, Ambawadi, Navrangpura, Paldi, etc, generates 477 MLD of sewage, which would be channelised in the recycling plant before being diverted to DSIR.
The committee also approved the proposal of supplying municipal water as well as industrial grade water to the industrial zones of the city. To begin with, AMC will start its pilot project in the Odhav industrial zone. “For this, we have signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with various industrial associations,” added Patel.
The committee, however, has kept one proposal pending which includes beautification and maintenance of central verge, traffic signals, public gardens, etc. on public-private partnership (PPP) model.
