In yet another direct attack, the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee has alleged that the BJP government has failed in water management and water distribution. The Sauni water scheme is only to mislead voters. Congress also demanded clarity on the increased expenditure on the scheme that has crossed the budget, number of dams benifitted with the scheme and the quality of Narmada dam structure.

Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi said, "Sauni scheme is only to mislead voters and is a drama-corruption scheme. Whenever elections come, issue of Narmada water filling up dams is being raised. The BJP government has failed in water management and water distribution. In Gujarat, the turnover of illegal water business is about Rs 10,000 crore. The issue of water crisis is being raised only to win elections."

He added, "Gujarat's former CM Narendra Modi in 2002 spoke about linkage of rivers with Narmada dam, but once he came to power, nothing was done for next five years. Before 2012 elections, Modi in Rajkot, announced Sauni Scheme and said that a total of 115 dams in Saurashtra and 87 rivers will get water from Narmada dam. Buit there have been instances of corruption in laying of pipeline and tendering process."
