Road safety workshop enthuses youngster in Ahmedabad

A two-day workshop on road safety and traffic rules was jointly organised by Rotaract club of Kankaria and Vasna and Sal Institutes, Gandhinagar. Amit Khatri, a certified road safety trainer, addressed the youngsters on the subject.

The aim of the workshop was to instill basic driving sense and traffic rules in the youth in a lively and fun way. Having conducted almost 1000 sessions across India so far on road safety, Khatri still feels there is a lot to learn.

He said, “People who drive think they know everything. While performance on the roads is important, basic knowledge of the vehicle is even more important.”

The theme of the talk by Khatri was ‘Whose road is this?’ Khatri gave an effective message through this theme that if the road is ours, then it is like our own home and we should not spit, pee or destroy it in any way. Traffic sense includes the attitude of people towards the environment, he added.

“People need to be aware about handling emergencies as well as rough driving conditions. Helmets, hand grips and silencer covers are small essentials that go a long way in assuring safety,” said Khatri.

Sensor-based computer testing tracks will be introduced soon for people who come for permanent driving licences.  

According to him road safety and traffic rules should be included in the school curriculum.

A Rotaract member Shashwat Desai said, “We have made eco-friendly posters which will be put up on the roadside. Seminars will be conducted every two months. A rally will be held on driving awareness and safety rules.”
