    Relief from humidity, Ahmedabad, South Gujarat to see rain in coming days

    The city reeling under humidity can finally look forward to some cooler days ahead. Ahmedabad is likely to get some rains in the coming days, as per Met department reports. South Gujarat is also likely to get good rains, although Saurashtra will have to wait for some more days.

    The Met department in a release said that light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at a few places in all the districts of South Gujarat region and North Gujarat, except Banaskantha, Patan and Mehsana.

    It has also warned of rains at isolated places in the Saurashtra, Kutch namely Bhavnagar, Amreli, Gir Somnath, Junagadh, Kutch and Diu.

    The city on Thursday recorded a temperature of 36.8 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature was 27.8 degree Celsius. However, the humidity level in the city was at 79%. The city has so far received 103 mm of rainfall since the beginning of monsoon which is 13% of its annual average rainfall of 793 mm. Across the district, Ahmedabad city has recorded the highest rainfall this monsoon. Of the total 10 talukas in the district only three received rains during the last 24 hours.

    Across the state, Jambhughoda in Panchmahals recorded the highest rainfall of 75 mm in the last 24 hours.

    The state has so far received just 8.56% of its total rainfall of 816 mm. The state has received 71.22 mm of rainfall till Thursday. In all 28 talukas and 70 districts have recorded rains of which two talukas recorded rain between 251 to 500 mm.

    Interestingly, South Gujarat region which as recorded heavy rainfall and is likely to see more in the coming days has for recorded just 3.72% of its total annual average rainfall of 1418 mm of rainfall. The region has so far received only 53mm of rainfall.

    In terms of percentage, Saurashtra has so far recorded the highest rainfall receiving 13.48% of its average annual rainfall of 663mm. It should be noted that Saurashtra is a rain deficit area along with Kutch that receives very low rainfall.
