Raised by single parent, city girl ranks 13th in CA finals

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), on Wednesday, announced the Chartered Accountants final examination result held in November 2017. Three from the city have secured AIR under 35. The CA final exam was held in November 2017 and the number of students who appeared in the CA final exam at 346 centres is 1,28,853.

Raised by a single parent, 22-year-old Prapti Pancholi topped the city by getting All India Rank 13. While she had her doubts whether she would pass or not, the result has come as a surprise to her.

Prapti lost her father in an accident before she was born and hence credits her success to her family. She said, "I have not seen my father as he died before I was born. But I was raised in a joint family and hence credit them and my mother for everything."

A little piece of advice she gives is that CA is not difficult to crack but the course is vast and lengthy. Hence aspirants should understand that there is no alternative to hardwork and manage their time well.

While Prapti got AIR 13, Kishankumar Mer got AIR 29 and Kalyani Mehta AIR 31, an official from ICAI said. The pass percentage as compared to CA finals in 2016 has increased in 2017. In November 2016 CA finals, the pass percentage of students who passed one or both groups was 13.42 as against 28.33 in 2017. Similarly, of the 2481 that appeared in group 1 in November 2016, only 228 passed against 1105 appearing in November 2017 and 218 passing.

For Kalyani Mehta, getting AIR 31 was nothing new. She had expected this rank as she also got a rank in IPCC and Company Secretariat (CS) Executive examination. Speaking about her journey, she said, "I focussed on the study material provided by the institute. So students should give first priority to the study material. Also, one needs to go in depth in the syllabus and not opt for rote learning. Understanding concepts and then applying logic helped me."

Mehta whose father is an accountant would relax by listening to soft music. She has already completed two levels of CS and now will be preparing for the third level of CS whose exam will be held in June this year.
