Even as the Met department has officially declared the onset of monsoon in Ahmedabad, the city for the past 3-4 days has not received any major rainfall. The situation is not likely to improve in the next 2-3 days. In fact, the isolated cloudy conditions combined with the incursion of moisture in the atmosphere has increased the discomfort for citizens, with the mercury crossing 37-38 degrees Celsius mark.

According to meteorologist Manorama Mohanty, the city is going to witness isolated cloudy conditions during the next 48 hours, but the chances of rainfall are very less. She clarified that isolated light rainfall might take place in some parts of the city, but there are no chances of any widespread rainfall. "After the 48-hour period is over, the situation might improve a little as a low pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal which is likely to bring rainfall to central India and north Gujarat as well," she said.

Interestingly, despite the very severe cyclonic storm 'Vayu' and a cyclonic circulation bringing rainfall to various parts of the state, the total rainfall deficiency in the state as compared to the normal rainfall stands at 25 % as on June 30. The situation is even worse in Ahmedabad, where the deficiency is 31%. However, the adjoining city of Gandhinagar has received a 52% surplus rainfall. The highest rainfall deficiency in the state is in Kutch (73%), followed by Morbi (58%) and Tapi (57%).

Meanwhile, the weather office has recorded extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in Navsari, heavy to very rainfall at isolated places in Valsad, Narmada, Tapi, Surat, Dang, and Bharuch on Sunday. The weather office has also predicted moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated places in south Gujarat during the next 48 hours. The rainfall is expected under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation, which is lying over south Gujarat and neighbourhood.

According to the weather office, the maximum temperature in Ahmedabad during the next week is likely to remain between 36-38 degrees Celsius, whereas the minimum would be around 27-28 degrees Celsius. The city will also witness a generally cloudy sky during this period.
