The Association of Progressive Schools (AoPS) has requested, in a letter to the state government, for early admission of students admitted under the Right to Education (RTE). The request comes in the light of delay in the admission process, which puts such students on the back foot.

In a letter addressed to Vinod Rao, Principal Secretary, Primary and Secondary Education, the members of AoPS have requested the government to begin the admission process from March and allot seats by April this year.
A total of 40 schools are members of the AoPS, which was formed in 2016 to improve educational standards of member schools and support them in promoting best practices.

The letter, written by Manan Choksi, President, AoPS and Ruchi Chowdhary, Secretary, AoPS, read, “The process of allocating students to various schools starts in the month of May and it is completed by July. Since the new academic session begins by April in CBSE and CISCE schools, we request you to start the RTE admission process in the month of March so that the admissions are over by the first week of April. This will enable the students to begin their classes on time along with others and can catch up faster.”

“If the admission procedure continues until the month of June or July like in the past, we will lose a lot of valuable time. With the admissions in place by April, we can use the summer break (May-June) by educating students. This can be done in order to help them keep pace with their peers in the class. During these extra months, the children can brush up their basics in different subjects and bridge the gap of the pre-primary schooling years which they may have missed,” the letter read.
