Both accused were thrashed by victims' families before being handed over to police officials.
Two separate incidents involving a woman being sexually harassed by her doctor and a sleeping child being allegedly raped by a passer-by were reported in the city on Friday. In both the incidents, the accused were roughed up by the public before being handed over to the police.
A nine-month pregnant woman has accused her physician, Dr Soham Dalal, of Krishna Hospital in Behrampura of sexually harassing her. According to the complaint filed with the Kagdapith police, the woman had been under the treatment of Dr Dalal. When, on Thursday morning, she went for a routine check-up, the doctor allegedly made an indecent proposal.
She then returned and complained to her husband who soon reached the hospital with his relatives and bashed up the doctor. His hospital was also ransacked. Kagdapith police inspector MK Limbat said the doctor was undergoing treatment at VS Hospital and would be arrested after being discharged. “We have also increased police presence in the area around the hospital after the incident. The doctor is also being given police protection to prevent further attacks on him,” said Limbat.
In another incident, a nine-year-old girl, who was sleeping outside her house was allegedly raped by a 20-year-old passer-by. The incident took place at Mira Crossroads near Isanpur. According to a complaint lodged with the police, the child was asleep on the footpath, while her parents were inside a hutment when Firzo Nai, a native of UP, was passing by the area around 10.30 pm.
Realising that the child was all alone, Nai took the opportunity to rape her. When the girl shouted for help, her parents rushed and so did people in the vicinity.
“They caught hold of Nai and bashed him up before handing him over to the police,” said Isanpur PI AR Rana. Police said Nai works as a tailor and lives in Pathar Kua area, near Relief Road. Rana said medical examination had confirmed rape on the child. ACP Raju Pathak is investigating the matter.
