Right-wing leader Pravin Togadia accused PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday of breaching the trust of hundreds and thousands of Hindus in India, who wished the Ram Mandir be built in Ayodhya. Togadia said this during the launch of an indefinite fast at Vishwa Hindu Parishad office in Ahmedabad at Vanikar Bhavan in Paldi area.
Togadia said, "Narendra Modi came to power walking on the dead bodies of 59 kar sevaks, who lost lives in Godhra carnage in 2002. Around 300 Hindus were killed by bullets fired by the state police in Gujarat riots at the behest of Narendra Modi. Around 50,000 people were sent behind the bars and more than 300 are undergoing through life imprisonment as they were sentenced by court for rioting. Their families are going through plightful days, and they faced this just because they wished Ram Mandir to be built in Ayodhya and not to send you to power. You should swear on these bereaved families and fulfill your promise on Ram Mandir."
Togadia added that after attaining power, PM Modi and other BJP leaders have been claiming in chorus that the issue of Ram Mandir would be sorted out through court, but when the UPA or Congress was in power, same PM Modi and BJP leaders were cursing the government on Ram Mandir issue.
"When Hindu leaders like me and others would curse Congress on Ram Mandir, Modi and BJP leaders would clap from behind sitting on the same stage and would support our actions for Ram Mandir. Today, after four years of rule in the Centre, they are threatening us to quit the issue, but I will not," added Togadia.
The former VHP leader also alleged that the Prime Minister and his government failed to fulfil other promises and took a U-turn from core agendas like Ram Mandir, cow slaughter ban, "teaching Pakistan a lesson" on sponsoring terrorism, abolition of article 370 from J&K and bringing common civil code in India. He also slammed the Modi government saying that it supported the very policies which it opposed when Congress was in power, for example MNREGA, GST, FDI in retail sector and others.
