The election season is not yet over for Gujarat. Even as the state wraps up the Lok Sabha polls with a spectacular win for the ruling BJP, four more assembly seats will be falling vacant necessitating another round of by-polls.

The polls will have to be held for Tharad, Kheralu, Amraiwadi and Lunawada as the MLAs representing these assembly seats have won the Lok Sabha polls. Of the four seats, three of them have been won by the BJP for at least two consecutive terms.

Apart from the Lok Sabha polls, by-polls for four other assembly seats- Jamnagar (rural) , Dhrangadhra, Manavadar and Unjha were held on April 23.

Bharatsinh Dabhi from Kheralu will be vacating the seat after winning the Patan Lok Sabha seat while Prabhat Patel will also resign from his post as MLA of Tharad after winning from Banaskantha. Patel was also the minister of state for irrigation and water supply, a post that is also likely to fall vacant. Patel won the assembly seat twice both in 2012 and 2017.

The Tharad seat which Patel represented gave him just 1.03 lakh of the over six lakh votes he garnered for the Banaskantha Lok Sabha seat. Infact, the it was Deesa assembly constituency that gave him the highest votes among all the seven constituencies that form part of Banaskantha Lok Sabha seats. He got 1.12 lakh votes from Deesa alone.

Lunawada assembly seat is at present represented by Ratansinh Rathod, who was chosen by the BJP to represent Panchmahals Lok Sabha seat. Though fielded by the BJP, Rathod won the Lunawada seat as an independent candidate. The seat had been won by Congress in the 2012 assembly elections.

Amraiwadi seat in Ahmedabad which was so far represented by MLA Hasmukh Patel will also have to find a new representative after Patel won the Ahmedabad East Lok Sabha seats.
