Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called the historic mandate won by the NDA and BJP a "positive vote" for the development of the country. Modi, who was in Ahmedabad to address a public rally at the party's old Khanpur office following his victory, also visited his mother Hiraba in Gandhinagar to seek her blessings. "After any major victory, one has to seek blessings from one's mother," he said.

The PM also paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's statue near Ahmedabad airport. Accompanied by BJP president Amit Shah and Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Modi thanked the people, and spoke of great responsibilities being placed on his shoulders. "Humility, wisdom and common sense are what you need to digest such a victory. The next five years will be unprecedented and it is time for us to reclaim the lost glory of India," Modi said.

Calling for 'Ek Sankalp, Ek Soch, Ek Raah and Ek Lakshya (one determination, one thought, one road, one goal), PM Modi also paid condolences to victims of the Surat fire. "No words will ever be enough to express anguish. The government will work towards ensuring such an incident is never repeated," he added.
