Party pulls out all stops for Narendra Modi's birthday bash

The joy of hundreds and thousands of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers knew no bounds as they celebrated the 64th birthday of Narendra Modi amid huge fanfare on Tuesday.

The birthday boy took the blessings of his mother, arch-rival Keshubhai Patel and Lord Jagannath in the morning, while party workers distributed food, fruits and medicines. Some even organised blood donation camps while others planned free medical camps for the needy.

Also, 23 new talukas across the state were dedicated to coincide with the event. Moreover, the BJP launched an eight-day drive to recruit 1 lakh workers in each of its cell. It will end on September 25, the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay.

“Our day started with a blood donation camp where 350 individuals took part. Party workers distributed fruits at the civil hospital and organised a group meeting with farmers in the evening to understand their problems,” said Lalji Savalia, president of the BJP’s Rajkot district unit.

For Dangs, it was a double delight. “The tribal district got two more talukas, which were dedicated today. We distributed biscuits at the government hospital and held a few cultural programmes, too,” said district president Baburav Chorya. Also, special sweet maker in Jamnagar city distributed panda. “I have distributed 70 kilos free during the day out of respect for chief minister Narendra Modi,” said Hitesh Chotai of Shikhand Sweets shop.

The youth wing of the Surat BJP organised a youth parliament in the city. “A youth parliament was held in the presence of national spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman where 3,500 students posed questions to 168 party workers, who acted as MPs,” said Harsh Sanghavi, an organiser.

“Each one of the 14 wards of Porbandar town organised a special programme. We also distributed food and fruits among the mentally challenged people and backward areas,” said Vijay Thanki, president of the BJP’s Porbandar district unit.
