Opposition rally protesting dalit killings on Sept 29 in Gujarat

Senior leaders from all parties, except ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), held a meeting in Ahmedabad on Tuesday to discuss police firing in Than that killed three dalit youngsters. Sources suggest that opposition parties in the state have decided to stand up against the killings.

“We have unanimously decided to conduct a meeting of Dalit Sangharsh Manch in Rajkot on September 27. A rally will be organised in Gandhinagar on September 29. We will present a memorandum to the in this regard,” said Siddharth Parmar, general secretary, GPP.

It was further resolved to form a committee comprising Ishwar Makwana and Girish Parmar of Congress, Siddharth Parmar and three social activists including Velji Patel and Bhanji Bagada.   

Meanwhile, members of Dalit Sangharsh Manch are determined to raise their voice against suppression of the lower castes and dalits in the state. “We are demanding a CBI probe in the incident, booking of the culprit under section 302 of IPC and a government job for the family members of the victims,” said Patel.

Until these demands are met by the state government, black flags will be hoisted in all dalit localities across the state, added sources.
