Now, Gujarat govt removes disparity in talati promotions

Gujarat government has decided to remove three conditions from the government resolution (GR) for promotion of Panchayat talatis. Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel made announcement Wednesday after meeting the association of Talatis in Gujarat.

This decision would affect more than 12,000 talatis (patwaris) working in the state panchayat department.

This will remove disparity in the system of promotion between talatis of the Panchayat Department and their counterparts in the Revenue Department.

The Revenue talatis are entitled to promotion to the upper cadre of deputy tehsildar and higher pay scale after service of 9, 12 and 24 years. However, the Panchayat talatis did not enjoy any such rights. All 12,000 talatis in the state had called a strike on October 06 which was called off last week after the government showed preparedness to resolve the issue.

Besides promotion and pay scale hike, the talatis had demanded fixation of job chart between Panchayat and Revenue Department talatis, implementation of the old pension scheme and others.

Dy CM Nitin Patel, Minister of State for Panchayat Department Jaydrathsinh Parmar and representatives from Gujarat Panchayat Talati Maha Mandal discussed various issues on Friday, following which the government made the announcement.

Talking to media persons on the issue, Patel said: "After we received representations from talatis of the Panchayat Department, we hereby announce to remove those three paradoxical conditions from the GR. Now, the talatis of the Panchayat Department will also be entitled to get promotion to upper cadre and pay scale hikes."

He said a talati will be appointed in each rural bureau where there are vacancies, so that people get government services through them.
