To address issues faced by parents and school students, parents association of the city has demanded a school parents inspection committee. In yet another controversy involving private schools in city, parents association has demanded an inquiry against schools using playgrounds for expansion and construction.

Last month, All Gujarat Parents Association had written to the Ahmedabad district collector requesting to set up a committee to look into such cases where schools have been found violating norms. The collector in a letter dated January 30 directed the District Education Officer to set up a committee and look into the matter keeping members of parents association on board.

The parents association members in their letter stated that there are a lot of private schools in the city which were given permission to start a school many years ago. But over the years, reportedly, schools have been taking up space allotted for playgrounds to increase the number of classes after they were given permission to do the same, taking away the basic right of the students, the letter said.

However, the DEO Ahmedabad city wrote to All Gujarat Parents Association president Naresh Shah, asking him to name a particular school which has violated the rule, to further initiate an inquiry.

Speaking with DNA, Naresh Shah alleged, "I have a list of 20 odd schools, however, the DEO has written to us asking to name only one school. We have raised an issue and brought it to the notice of authorities. Instead of asking us to pinpoint, why cannot the DEO initiate an inquiry against all schools?" Naming the schools, Shah said, "Once the committee is formed, I will give all the names to the DEO that includes Udgam school, St Kabir and many more who have indulged in illegal practices."

The Complaint
